Meghan Elizabeth Barnes and Samuel Robert Thornton were married June 27, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Edward McLeod. The wedding was followed by a reception at the McGregor Downs Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Bobby Barnes of Cary. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thomas of Pittsboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Barnes of Elm City. Parents of the groom are Mr. Andy Thornton of Yorkshire, England, and Ms. Diana Thornton of Camarillo, California. The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science and a Master of Arts in teaching. The groom graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. After a honeymoon to Aruba, the couple will reside in Carrboro.
