Triangle.com brings you "Behind the Bar," a weekly feature that introduces you to a local bartender. This week check out Jessica White, an Peace College graduate with a degree in business administration. Jessica bartends at Sono in downtown Raleigh.
Hometown: Detroit, Michigan.
Your favorite drink: Gentleman Jack on the rocks!
Best movie ever: Close one ... "American History X" or "Thank You for Smoking."
Interesting fact out you: I am a tomboy at heart and have always been considered "one of the guys." I am also a HUGE, HUGE fan of MMA- UFC stuff .... Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, etc. I also love playing music and I am learning the bass guitar right now. Piano is next!!!
Drink you least like to make: Manhattan.
What you drink at the end of your shift: Jack Daniel's with a splash of ginger.
Favorite song right now: "Laundry Room" by The Avett Brothers.
People drink too many: Jager Bombs ;)
People don't drink enough: Good old whiskey and bourbon. Everyone always wants to destroy a good liquor by adding a bunch of syrup-filled juice and cordials.
Drink for a hot summer night: Moijito or Mint julip.
Favorite '80s sitcom: "Three's Company."
What you say at last call: I find that everyone is much happier if I am polite about it. If customers don't get the point after I have flipped on the lights, I just say, "Hey guys, I am cashing out." Customers are generally courteous about it.
Brad Pitt or George Clooney: Brad Pitt! Did you see "Fight Club!" Come on!!!
Facebook or Twitter: Facebook. Twitter confuses me and I don't really dig the idea of people always knowing my location, mood, etc.
The best thing about drinking in the Triangle: The wide variety of venues Raleigh has now. It has been great to see this town progress as much as it has the past 5 years I have been living here.
The worst thing about drinking in Triangle: Cover charge? If there isn't a band or an event, why must I pay $10 dollars to just come inside? Chances are I will be spending enough on alcohol to make up for it!
A bartender's best friend is: Their favorite wine tool! I feel lost without mine!
Ever get a phone number while working? Yes. And 99 percent of the time I did not even hint that I wanted it!
Craziest thing you've seen while bartending: That may be something that should be kept confidential. ;)
Favorite bar in the Triangle other than your own: Mac's Tavern in Cary. Everyone knows you. The staff brings us our beer right when we sit down. We can play darts, pool and they have great bar food. The patio is awesome outside when the weather is nice. Their live music is always exceptional.
