Monday's blah, but your week doesn't have to be. So, here are some hip haunts and choice events to hit up:

DAVID SEDARIS: Dubbed “the closest thing the literary world has these days to a rock star,” he’s also the closest thing Raleigh has to a rock star. Well, him, and Evan Rachel Wood. So, dress your family in corduroy and denim and get over to see sardonic scribe David Sedaris make words at Memorial Auditorium. When: Oct. 9, 8 p.m. Starting at $42.50-$55. Buy tickets | Raleigh Memorial Auditorium

WORLD BEER FEST - DURHAM: Make it a sudsy Saturday and go on a bangin’ brew bender in the Bull City for area-best brew fest — ranked by USA Today among the top in the country — featuring 150 best-in breweries, live beats and tasty treats. When: Oct. 9, Noon-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. $45 in advance, $50 at door. More information | Durham Bulls Athletic Park

SALT N’ PEPA’S LEGENDS OF HIP HOP: Sure. They make you wanna shoop. And other things. Like kickin’ it over to RBC for a legendary rap roster, where Salt N’ Pepa will just be chillin’ and mindin’ their business, and playin’ on your weakness to shake-shake that bootie, along with hip hop hot acts Naughty by Nature, Whodini, Rob Base and Kid n Play. When: Oct. 8, 8 p.m., $42.50, $55.00, $75.00. Buy tickets | RBC Center

LUNAFEST: Watch a flick—help save a chick. Varsity Theatre raises the curtain on this noteworthy national traveling film fest—screening in over 150 cross-country venues from October to June—with a reel of shorts for, by and about women. Ticket proceeds go to the Family Violence Prevention Center and the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund. When: Oct. 7; Reception, 6:30 p.m.; Showtime, 7 p.m. $5 students; $10 general admission. More information | Varsity Theatre

TALKING TREES HIKE: Spice up your autumn Saturday with a hike in the Duke Forest and reap the benefit of staff know-how on forest management practices—from harvesting and prescribed burning, to a garden variety of tree species, both familiar and extraordinary. When Oct. 9, 9-11 a.m. Free and open to the public, although registration is required. Email dukeforest@duke.edu or call 919.613.8013 for reservations.
