Its not your first Friday, but its First Friday. Heres your sneak peek on what to do, what to see & where to be and be seen:
311 GALLERY AND STUDIOS: Two events - The Printmakers of North Carolina 2010 & New Work by The 311 Tenants, 6-9 p.m. Both exhibitions will be up through December 31.
The printmakers from around the state exhibit their latest work in the final show of 2010, including work from Daniel Allegrucci, Chris Davenport, Janette Hopper and Susan Martin, the latter of whom is also a 311 Tenant. The collection of work will display what is au courant in hand-pulled printmaking processes an excellent display of traditional and innovative methods for creating images and ideas relevant to today. The 311 Tenants are a varied and talented group of artists including painters, printmakers, photographers and jewelers. In this year-end exhibition, their art speaks of a year of hard work, trepidation and growth.

Mary Ruth Dana and Lee Ball are the featured artists this month at Local Color Gallery, a co-op of talented women. For November's First Friday, many of Mary Ruth's watercolor works were inspired by a trip to Northern California in the Fall of 2009, others from early times. Lee's Twogether work explores playful interpretation of common word pairs through images painted in oil. Says artist Lee Ball's husband, Jeremy, Bring a friend. See and be twogether.

I will be showing a new collection of handmade sterling silver and gold jewelry created at Antfarm Studios, including my work as seen in the Raleigh fashionSPARK 2010 Runway Show. Inspired by the tradition of metal body armor, this collection conveys a controlled strength, and was designed with the intention of bringing a feeling of empowerment to the wearer. We also have a group show in our small gallery this month, featuring recent work created by our current Antfarm members. Visitors will see an eclectic mix of drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations, representing the unique perspectives of our individual artists.

REBUS WORKS: Iron, 6-10 p.m. The show will be on display through Nov. 20.
Rebus Works is pleased to announce Iron, an invitational exhibition featuring works by five regional artists: Ben Galata, Benjamin Reid, Jon Shearin, Matt McConnell and Marc Maiorana. Representing a wide variety of styles in contemporary iron work, the exhibition includes pieces that range from modern utilitarian designs, like Marc Maioranas coat and wine racks to Jon Shearins intricate relic-like sculpture, Quattour Telum Infernalis. Ben Galata contributes both sculpture and architectural elements that are forcefully powerful yet elegant, while Matt McConnells sculpture is airy and geometric. To complete the group, Benjamin Reids piece, Language, is organic, quietly suggesting symbols and their attached yet unknown meaning.

DAPPER STYLE HOUSE: Dapper Style House Grand Opening, 7-11 p.m. Photos from Nightingale Series will be featured until December First Friday.
We wanted to celebrate our grand opening on First Friday because it will be the official launch of our recurring monthly First Friday celebration for the Nightingale Series. The series will release three new photos each month during a First Friday celebration. The photos are taken by local photographer Greg Myers and include 12 local models wearing Dappers clothing. The cool thing about the Nightingale Series is the stories behind the photos. They chronicle the tales of the 12 different characters by telling one piece of the story each month in the three photos.
