After four years hustling hooch at White Collar Crime, hes landed at Lanes, Glo-Sos newest sip spot where you get your whiskey with a side of history. Fashioned by the owners of Fayetteville Street fav Isaac Hunters, their newest historical hot spot, which opened in August, is named for father of Raleigh, Joel Lane, and thrives on NC authenticity. Cherry Bounce anyone? So whether slinging sidecars on Whiskey Wednesday Trivia nights, popping bottles and pouring drams for date nights and wine tastings, or tending taps for beer tastings, this bar buff feels pretty lucky to have landed at Lanes. Im really excited about the opportunity to put a new spin on Glenwood Ave, he said. I just love my job. On behalf of parched patrons, we love it, too. Bottoms up.
Q&A
Hometown: Goldsboro, N.C.
How you landed at Lane's: I had recently left a previous job, and I knew Zack and Ben [owners] were looking, so I guess I got lucky.
Joel Lane's in a nutshell: Delicious, awesome atmosphere and great service.
What Joel Lane's brings to the Glo-So scene: It's a traditional American pub unlike anything else on Glenwood, so you don't have to be in a club.
What distinguishes Lane's from other spots about town: We have a great selection of whiskeys, and to be honest with you, the food is awesome!
If you have a drink in your hand, it's probs a: Miller Lite, but if I had to have [something else], liquorcitron and soda.
Your signature drink: It really depends what time of year it is. I have a selection of different delicious cocktails, but my best is probably my margarita! I change a few ingredients to make it my own!
You're anywhere you want to be right now. Where can we find you? I would definitely say on a beach, but I dont think I could narrow it down to which beach.
What you probs were in your past life: A professional athlete because it surely passed me in this life!
Trip you'd break the bank to take: I would tour the chain of islands in the Caribbean.
The last thing that made you want to run red lights to get to: Bathroom!
If you didn't know better, you'd think this song was written about you: Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Fav childhood movie: The Goonies!
Biggest celeb has-been: Mike Ditka.
A piece of advice you got that's good enough to pass on: In this business: If you never give anything away you will never be expected to. - Kevin Frasier
If you were an animal, you'd be a: A large bear (something nobody would mess with).
Hidden talent: Well most people don't know this, but I am a pretty talented singer (laughs).
If we paid you enough, you'd: For enough money I'd do just about anything.
Something that makes you want to poke people in the eye: People trying to finagle price ... I don't make the prices, and really, do you do that at Wal-Mart? The grocery store?
What one thing do you wish you could tell people about patronizing any bar? Have your money ready and tip well, after all it's not like we get a paycheck. This is how we make money.
Other sip spots in the Triangle you've worked: Five Star, White Collar Crime, manager at Goat and Bison (same owner).
