Get Smart PG-13
Comedy some rude humor, action violence and language
Steve Carell plays Maxwell Smart as someone who is actually smart in the big screen version of the 1960s TV spy spoof. The film's first half is like pulling teeth, with the mismatched Carell and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 sniping and griping at each other as you wait for something funny to happen. With Dwayne Johnston, Alan Arkin, Terence Stamp and James Caan.(C.D.L.) 1 hour, 50 minutes.

Hancock PG-13
Action some intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and language
Will Smith portrays an alcoholic superhero and Jason Bateman is the PR guy who tries to revamp his image. The movie is frayed and messy, the result of too many people coming and putting dents in something that was promising to begin with. (C.D.L.) 1 hour, 32 minutes.

Henry Poole Is Here PG-13
Drama thematic elements and some language
A man (Luke Wilson) wants to get away from life and buys a home in another place. But when his neighbor finds an image of Christ in a stain on the side of his house, those plans are upended. It's difficult not to be cynical while watching this dramedy; I wish it were more honest and less shameless, especially when the movie gets to its cheat of an ending. (C.D.L.) 1 hour, 40 minutes.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull PG-13
Action adventure violence and scary images.
Just like the dark ''Temple of Doom'' and the cheeky ''Last Crusade,'' this ''Raiders of the Lost Ark'' sequel has its share of glitches. But director Steven Spielberg and executive producer George Lucas are embracing them this time around. Spielberg makes up for the story's lack of cohesion (and coherence) by keeping the pacing swift and the action sequences busy. Ford is amusingly loose, playing Jones in a more obviously wink-wink fashion than ever. And Shia LaBeouf's chip-on-his-shoulder, leather-jacketed Marlon Brando routine doesn't wreck the movie. (C.D.L.) 2 hours, 4 minutes.

Journey to the Center of the Earth PG
Sci-Fi intense adventure action and some scary moments
Old-fashioned family-friendly B-movie cheese is served up in this Brendan Fraser/Jules Verne action epic for kids. Fraser stars as a teacher of tectonic physics, who goes with his nephew and an Icelandic mountain guide to try to find his missing brother who disappeared looking for a way into the center of the Earth. If you're old enough to remember any earlier version, you're too old for this one. - wire 1 hour, 29 minutes.

Kung Fu Panda PG
Animated sequences of martial arts action
In the lush, colorful Valley of Peace, Po (Jack Black), a portly and lazy panda, compelled by dreams of ''awesomeness and attractiveness,'' wants to be a kung fu warrior. Po's every line seems infused with a comforting combination of attitude and wily wide-eyed playfulness; his clumsy movement and facial expressions are hilarious. And when he gets his kung fu groove, it's a sight to see. While the movie's underlying can-do spirit and reassuring never-quit ethos are inspiring, some of the battles may nonetheless be too intense for very young children. (C.O.) 1 hour, 28 minutes.

Mamma Mia! PG-13
Musical some sex-related comments
This adaptation of the Broadway hit is the film version of cotton candy -- tasty and soon forgotten -- with the music of Abba, the locale of the Greek islands and Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski and Amanda Seyfried. (O.S.) 1 hour, 48 minutes.

The Mummy: Tomb Of the Dragon Emperor PG-13
Action adventure action and violence
Brendan Fraser comes back for his third entry in this series as adventurer Rick O'Connell. (Rachel Weisz drops out this time, though, as his wife; Maria Bello comes in.) In this installment, the mummy of a shape-shifting entity, cursed by a wizard centuries ago, is unearthed. (C.D.L.) 1 hour, 52 minutes.

Pineapple Express R
Drama pervasive language, drug use, sexual references and violence
A stoner (Seth Rogen) who bought a rare strain of marijuana becomes witness to a murder, and he's afraid the pot he dropped at the scene will connect the killer to him and his dealer. For a movie where the gags are mostly delivered through a waft of weed smoke, and blood and bullets are just as liberally sprayed throughout, this comedy shows how absurd and hazardous action-movie tropes are when you apply them to the real world. (C.D.L.)

Space Chimps G
Animated
This is one of those cartoons parents won't mind sitting through while little Miss or Mister 8-and-under gets his or her chuckles at the cute talking primates. ''Chimps'' borrows from many a sci-fi film -- ''Star Wars,'' ''2001,'' ''Red Planet'' and, especially, ''The Right Stuff.'' The apes fire off insults about evolution (''You're missing a link!'') and other famous chimps (''Easy on the fur, Furious George!''). More comically verbal than ''WALL-E,'' less violent than ''Kung Fu Panda,'' even if these chimps still have light-years to go to reach the animation stratosphere of a Pixar or Dreamworks. - wire 1 hour, 21 minutes.

The Step Brothers R
Comedy crude and sexual content, and pervasive language
Former oSaturday Night Liveo star Will Ferrell and former oSNLo writer Adam McKay seem to bring out the best -- and worst -- in each other. Their third cinematic collaboration, after Anchorman and Talladega Nights, has them indulging in their personalized brand of doggedly loose, hopelessly absurd movie comedy. Ferrell and John C. Reilly become bound-by-marriage siblings when their respective single parents tie the knot. Despite the fact that they're both men pushing 40, they still live at home in a perpetual state of full-fledged, arrested development. Sometimes oBrotherso succeeds, especially in scenes that require Ferrell, Reilly or whoever's on camera to be as coarse and profane as possible. And sometimes, it doesn't know when to stop; scenes don't comedically flow so much as they just waddle on. (C.D.L.) 1 hour, 38 minutes.

WALL-E G
Animated
Pixar's latest is about a lonely little robot WALL-E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) centuries after humans have disappeared from Earth. This digitally brilliant tale presents an almost surreal and occasionally dark look at the future. Voices of Ben Burtt, Elisssa Knight, Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard, John Ratzenberger, Sigourney Weaver, Kathy Najimy. (C.O.) 1 hour, 38 minutes.
