Getting started

Create and submit your announcement through our online form.

  • Choose your style, input your information, upload your photo and receive an instant quote.
  • You can save the announcement and return at any time.

Before you begin

  • This website is compatible with Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher, Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox.
  • Disable pop-up blockers
  • Use the Help links to guide you through the system

 

Step 1: Choose a style. On this page are the various styles we offer. Choose a style based on the size and shape of your photograph and how much you would like to say.

Step 2: The Photo. Digital or scanned photos should be in jpg format. The News & Observer can scan from originals, if needed, at no cost. All announcements run in black and white in the newspaper. Refer to the Photo Guidelines page for additional information.

Step 3: What do you want to say? You may write the announcement in your own words or you can use the examples provided in our help section.

Step 4: Send us your information. The announcement form will open as a new window. Keep this browser window open to refer to as you create your new announcement.

Policies:

  • It is the policy of The News & Observer to spell out most words including titles, states, and schools.
  • It is not necessary to use North Carolina with the cities included within the state. Cities outside of North Carolina will include the appropriate state.
  • Heading information is included on all announcements. This includes photographer, studio name, person or persons appearing in the photo and the couple’s names.
  • Prices are subject to change without notice.
  • Announcements are pre-paid; you will receive a final price quote with your proof.
  • By submitting the announcement you are agreeing to the $25 administrative fee should you cancel your announcement.
  • The News & Observer reserves the right to revise, edit or reject any or all copy and photographs.

Print deadlines

Deadline is 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, 10 days prior to Sunday publication

  • Annoucements received after 3:00 p.m. will publish the following Sunday
  • Holiday deadlines are at least 2 business days prior to normal deadlines.
  • To proof your announcement, you may come by our office of we will fax, or email a proof to you . If you choose not to proof your announcment it will be considered approved, will run, and be charged the appropriate rate.
  • There will be a $25.00 administrative fee for cancelation of an announcment.
